Despite the great advances in the regenerative medicine field, monitoring the metabolic changes of cultured cells during tissue formation is still an important challenge; which is caused by the limitations associated with the bulk volumetric assays. In recent research by scientists from Italy and Netherland, a simple method is developed based on optical sensors made of fluorescent capsules for monitoring pH in MSCs-seeded 3D scaffolds.
