In a national collaboration of Spain scientists, a new bio-ink made of alginate and hyaluronic acid was developed for articular cartilage engineering. To provide the mechanical properties required in cartilage tissue, Polylactic acid was co-printed with the cell-encapsulated hydrogel. The promising results of this study showed that this hybrid 3d bioprinted structure can heighten the expression of chondrogenic gene markers and specific matrix deposition
